Roanoke Rapids police are investigating a shooting in which a victim was shot in the foot and a minivan was stolen.

The shooting occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the South Rosemary Family Dollar.

Officers discovered a vehicle had been shot multiple times and a woman shot in the foot. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of an injury which was not considered to be life-threatening.

Chief Bobby Martin said the woman is not believed to be the intended target of the shooting.

During the investigation shots were fired in front of Bobby’s, which is also located in the South Rosemary area. Officers responded and collected spent shell casings in the road.

Officers learned the suspect took a gray Honda Odyssey van with North Carolina tags TDP-9096. The van is a 2002 model and was last seen headed north away from the scene.

Martin said the driver of the van is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. Call 911 or local law enforcement if the vehicle is seen.

“The Roanoke Rapids Police Department would like to thank the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Halifax County EMS, DOT — state Department of Transportation — and the Roanoke Rapids Fire Department for all their help with this incident,” Martin said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Halifax County Crime Stoppers at 252-583-4444 or the police department at 252-533-2810.
