A Garysburg woman was arrested and charged Wednesday evening after a Weldon police officer stopped her for speeding.

Weldon Chief Christopher Davis said the arrest of Alexis Rebecca Barnes, 25, occurred around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of West Third and Chestnut streets.

Corporal S. McKimmey stopped the vehicle and during the encounter Barnes got out of the vehicle and became argumentative, Davis said.

The officer asked her to return to her vehicle several times and Barnes became combative, according to the chief.

McKimmey arrested Barnes after a brief struggle and took her before a magistrate.

She was charged with speeding, fictitious registration, no insurance, resisting a public officer, assault on a government official, and communicating threats.

She received a $10,000 secured bond and October 19 court date.

Deputy M. Wilkins of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
