The Halifax County Health Department today reported there were 395 new positive cases of COVID-19 since its report last week.

The health department has resumed weekly reports due an increase in cases. The next report will be issued on August 31.

As of this report Halifax County remains in the orange category, signifying a high level of community transmission.

There has been a total of 16,417 positive cases of the virus since March of 2020.

There have been 190 deaths related to the virus.

 A notable increase in cases was reported in July. The cases are now slightly declining as are the metrics the department is using.

Hospital admissions at ECU North have decreased over the past week as has detection of the virus in the wastewater supply. 

The health department continues to encourage vaccinations as well as booster shots.

The department has all three vaccines and a supply of N95 masks.
