A 47-year-old Roanoke Rapids man faces cocaine trafficking charges following the execution of a search warrant in the 1000 block of Zoo Road North Tuesday afternoon, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Matthew Lamont Garner faces charges of trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lieutenant Shane Guyant said the arrest of Garner came following an extensive investigation which led Agent B. Murphy to apply for and receive a search warrant

Agents located approximately 63 grams of crack cocaine, paraphernalia consistent with narcotics sales, and approximately $8,500 in cash.

Agents seized the items and arrested Garner who was at the residence at the time of the search warrant.

Garner received a $30,000 bond and December 15 court date.

Guyant said Garner has an extensive criminal history with convictions for robbery with a dangerous weapon in 1994, a common law robbery conviction in 1993, felony possession of cocaine in 2003 and possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine in 2016.
