The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information in a concealed weapon case in which a man placed a pistol in his waistband as a lone Roanoke Rapids police officer responded to an alarm call to investigate the larceny of a motor vehicle.

Lieutenant Shane Guyant of the sheriff’s office said while investigating the larceny on March 15 around 11 p.m. sheriff’s office detectives assisting in the probe obtained a video and during its review a man can be seen in the passenger seat of a pickup putting a pistol in his waistband.

The man exited the vehicle and remained in the area as the Roanoke Rapids officer continued the investigation.

“This was going on without the officer having any knowledge,” Guyant said. “Although the individual never approached the officer, their actions are very concerning and dangerous. There is no way the officer could have known what was going on at the time.”

Guyant said in the video the pistol appears in the individual’s right hand and is tucked in the waistband of his front pants to conceal it.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of this individual is encouraged to report what they know anonymously to Halifax County CrimeStoppers by calling 252-583-4444 or online at this link
