A 37-year-old Chesapeake man has been identified as the victim in a fatal shooting which occurred late Wednesday afternoon on Kincaid Drive in the Roanoke Rapids area.

Lieutenant Shane Guyant of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said the family of Desmond Lamar Sloan was notified this morning.

It was not immediately clear as of this report whether Sloan was originally from the area or had family or friends here.

In a statement Guyant said deputies responded to the area of Kincaid Drive and Ted Court off Highway 48 around 4:45 p.m. after receiving a call of a shooting.

Deputies found Sloan deceased in the front seat of an SUV. Detectives processed the crime scene.

No one has been arrested as of this report.

Guyant said “investigators are continuing to follow productive leads, but still encourage the public to report any information known about this homicide.”
