The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Detective Morgan Worrell:

Wednesday around 8:45 a.m. Officer J. Conrad attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a known stolen vehicle in the area of Virginia Avenue and Highway 158.

The driver, later identified as 31-year-old Rashon Woodley, refused to stop and fled.

Woodley crashed the vehicle in the area of Carolina and Eleventh streets.

The Roanoke Rapids man was transported to ECU North and then airlifted to another medical facility. The last update on Woodley, Worrell said, was that he was in critical but stable condition.

He faces charges of felony flee to elude, aggressive driving and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The vehicle had been reported stolen the day before from the area of Highway 158 and Old Farm Road.

Lieutenant J. Baggett, Master Officer S. Langley and detectives M. Hunsucker, S. Bryant, and N. Bankert assisted. 

Shoplifting

Police are investigating a shoplifting that occurred Wednesday at a business in the area of Smith Church Road and Highway 158 around 8:30 p.m.

The suspect left the business after walking past the point of sale with a box of Huggies Pull-Ups and continued out of the store without paying for the merchandise.  

The man was with a small child.
