Incumbent District 3 Halifax County Commissioner Linda Brewer will not seek re-election to the board, according to the Halifax County Board of Elections.

Today was the last day of filing for the March 5 primary.,

Thomas Barrett of Roanoke Rapids filed for the District 3 board seat for which Brewer opted to not seek another term.

Brewer could not be immediately reached for comment this afternoon.

In other filing news, Rodney D. Pierce of Roanoke Rapids filed to challenge incumbent Michael H. Wray in the District 27 state House of Representatives race.

The rest of the races shape up as follows:

District court judges

W. Rob Lewis is running unopposed for his District 7 district court judge seat 1

Teresa Raquel Robinson Freeman will run opposed for her District 7 district court judge seat 2

Takıya Lewis Blalock and Thomas Earl Dixon will square off for the District 7 district court judge seat 3

Assata Kimbrough Buffaloe and Jamal Summey will square off for the District 7 district court judge seat 4

Halifax County Board of Commissioners District 1

Jimmie Silver and Ophelia Gould-Faison are running against one another

Halifax County Board of Commissioners District 2

Gary R. Redding is running in the primary but will face opposition from Chuck Hasty in November. Hasty has opted to file as an unaffiliated candidate

Halifax County Register of Deeds

Christie C. Avens is running unopposed to retain her seat

Halifax County Schools Board of Education

Incumbents Tyus S. Few, Charles R. Hedgepeth, Carolyn W. Hawkins and James E. Mills will face competition from Terri Silver, Heley J. Richardson, Curtis W. Young, and Barbara Wilkins

Weldon City Schools Board of Education

Incumbents Donna Harrison, O.D. Sykes, and Kimberly A. Robison will face competition from Noah Ellis Davis Sr., Regina B. Brooks, Jennifer Wilkins-Doby and Al Bennett
