A Roanoke Rapids man remains in the Halifax County Detention Center as of this report after he was charged Saturday with meth possession and other counts.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Shane Guyant said Officer C. Walker conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by William Thomas Kidd, 38.

Kidd had a suspended license.

With assistance from Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Deputy N. Estes and his dog Rocko, the canine alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.

A  probable cause search of the vehicle yielded 1.7 grams of methamphetamine which Roanoke Rapids Sergeant D. Newsome found inside a folded dollar bill.

Estes found a 9mm pistol inside the glove compartment.

Guyant said Kidd is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing a firearm. Kidd's felony convictions include forgery from 2022, financial card theft in 2017, and breaking and entering in 2012.

Walker arrested and charged Kidd with possession of a firearm by felon, possession of methamphetamine, and driving while license revoked.

He received a $25,000 secured bond and January 25 district court date.
