A Roanoke Rapids woman faces DWI and unsafe driving counts following a stop Monday afternoon in the area of Bolling Road.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Shane Guyant said PACE Officer J. Conrad observed a person later identified as 35-year-old Courtney Ramsey operating an Accord and passing multiple vehicles in the turning lane.

Conrad activated his lights and siren but Ramsey did not heed them and continued to drive until she reached what was later learned to be her residence.

Guyant said Conrad could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle as well as Ramsey’s breath. The chief said the officer also observed physical signs of impairment.

A probable cause search yielded an opened bottle of liquor beneath the driver's seat.

Ramsey was transported to the police department to obtain an intoxilyzer breath sample.  She refused and a search warrant was obtained and executed at ECU North for a blood sample.

Ramsey was taken before a magistrate and charged with DWI, fail to stop for blue lights and siren, unsafe passing, reckless driving with wanton disregard, and open container.

She received a $500 bond and March 1 court date.
