The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Captain Scott Hall:

On Thursday shortly before 4:45 p.m. Deputy D. Bybee attempted to stop a four wheeler driven by a man later identified as 44-year-old David Berwick.

Berwick was traveling westbound on Highway 158 near Zoo Road in the center lane at a high rate of speed.

Rather than stopping, Berwick fled from the deputy reaching speeds of approximately 70 in a 45 zone.

Berwick eluded capture at the time, but Bybee identified him and warrants were obtained.

Berwick surrendered later in the day and was charged with driving while license revoked, reckless driving, speeding, and felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle.

He remains in the Halifax County Detention Center without the opportunity for bond for pending charges.

On April 22 he is scheduled for a district court appearance for driving while license revoked and an expired tag; on May 23 he is scheduled for a district court appearance on meth and other drug charges; on May 13 he is scheduled for a district court appearance on Thursday’s counts.

Murfreesboro man sought

A Murfreesboro man is being sought for buying electronics with counterfeit currency.

On March 26 a report was taken after speaking to a victim after they met with an individual identified by Detective A. Holland as 26-year-old Tariq Powell.

The victim was attempting to sell some electronics and communicated with Powell through a social media platform.

During the transaction of the electronics in the Enfield area, the victim realized that he was given counterfeit money after Powell left.

Powell is in the Roanoke Rapids area, but could possibly be in other areas as well. He operates a gray Mitsubishi Outlander.
