A Halifax man is expected to be sentenced November 5 in Raleigh on two counts — one of them related to the robbery of an Enfield convenience store during January of last year.
Federal court records show that Khiyelle Dent pleaded guilty to counts three and five of his indictment, one which is related to the Enfield store robbery and the other a count related to an unrelated weapons charge.
The remaining three counts of his five-count indictment will be dismissed.
Counts one and two of that indictment are tied to the January 10, 2023 robbery of the Dollar General store in Gaston while count four is an aiding abetting charge tied to the Enfield robbery.
Count five is a charge of felon in possession of a weapon from February 2 of last year.
In the crime related to the Speedway store in Enfield, the indictment says that Dent, also known as YaYa, aided and abetted another known to the grand jury, unlawfully obstructed, delayed, and affected commerce and the movement of articles by robbery through actual and threatened force.
In the first count, which will be dismissed, the indictment says Dent committed a robbery through threatened and actual force at the Gaston Dollar General. Count two is related to the use of a weapon in the crime.
Documents give no details of the reasons behind his pleas.
Dent has been held in federal custody since his arrest and on January 3 United State Magistrate Judge Kimberly A. Swank concluded that he didn’t introduce sufficient evidence to refute detention.
“By clear and convincing evidence … no condition or combination of conditions of release will reasonably assure the safety of any other person and the community,” the magistrate judge concluded.
Her decision was based on Dent’s prior criminal history, participation in criminal activity while on supervision or release, a history of violence, a history of weapons use, and lack of a suitable release plan.
His arrest warrant was executed on December 18 of last year.
