Elsie Lee Brickell Porch, born in Halifax, NC, on October 11, 1928, died at home with her daughter, Donna, by her side, on August 2nd, 2025. She was 96.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Louis H. Brickell and Mary Elizabeth Miles Brickell, sons, Russell L. Brickell and Louis E. Brickell; grandson, Joshua R. Jean, sisters, Eugenia Tillery, Carol Crowder, Alice Sykes and a brother, Fletcher Brickell (Babe).
Elsie is survived by her sons, Steve W. Brickell (Cindy), of Richmond, VA, David R. Jean (Billie), of Drewryville, VA, and a daughter, Donna J. Patterson (Ray), of Roanoke Rapids, NC, brother, Charles B. Brickell of Emporia, VA, sisters, Shirley Blount (Buddy) of Fla, Nora Wilson (Jerry) of Fla, Betty Stroud of Chesterfield, VA, and Charlotte Brickell of Halifax, NC, grandchildren, Rodney Brickell, Wendy Simpson, Angela Bristow, Audrey Jean, Tanya Brickell, Crystle Atkinson, Edward Jean, Cheyenne Patterson and Dakota Patterson, plus 19 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elsie never met a stranger and had many great stories to tell that were mostly from hers and her family’s life and adventures. She loved her family and her family loved her. She was known as Grammy to many of her grandkids’ friends in Roanoke Rapids and she was Grammy because she was an award winning person.
Elsie was a hard worker of many jobs over her lifetime and had many adventures. From working in cotton and tobacco fields, driving 18-wheelers, shirt factory, waitressing, making pizzas, working at old-time convenience stores, dispatching at a cab stand, checking in game kills, selling hunting and fishing licenses, selling fish bait, helping with military events and spouses, and much more. She cooked for many people.
Her hobbies were crafts, word search, taking care of her plants and parakeets, raking, and telling stories about her life and adventures, and taking care of her grandson, Dakota.
She liked music, western wear, flowers, Tinker Bell, earrings, pretty and sparkly things, and talking to family.
