Gwendolyn Lowe Merritt, 97, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at ECU Hospital North. 

She was born in Roanoke Rapids on December 9, 1925 to William and Mittie Lowe. 

Gwen married her loving husband of 72 years Jesse Merritt in 1943 who passed away in 2015. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, William Selby Lowe. Gwen is survived by her son, Selby Paige Merritt, and two grandsons, Matthew Paige Merritt and Jeffrey Scott Merritt. 

Gwen worked for JP Stevens for 46 years. She enjoyed reading and watching old movies. She was a devoted daughter, mother and grandmother. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be held Friday, August 25, 2023 at 11:00 am at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Dathan Hall officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to First Baptist Church in memory of Gwen Merritt.
