The Roanoke Rapids based Lady Venom 14U travel softball team played in the USSSA State tournament in Clayton this past weekend and earned the 1st place hardware.

The 14U Venom went 2-0 in pool play to earn the number one seed in their bracket for weekend by shutting out the Carolina Outlaws 6-0 and edging by Garner Elite 5-4.

The Lady Venom team played their first bracket game Saturday night, but fall to the Carolina Shockwave 9-5.

Sunday saw the Lady Venom team return to action where they defeated the Pretty Fierce by a 5-4 score, then faced the Crystal Coast Riptide in the next matchup. Going into the last inning tied 6-6, the Riptide plated 7 runs in the top half of the inning taking a 13-6 lead. Then the Lady Venom girls came up in the bottom of the inning never giving up and scored 8 runs and take the come from behind win with a score of 14-13 to move on to the championship game.

The Lady Venom team would face an undefeated Carolina Shockwave team in the Championship game and beating them 3-1 to force a game two, then beating them again 5-1 behind strong pitching, stellar defense, and clutch hitting from the Venom team.

Overall, the Roanoke Rapids based Lady Venom went 6-1 for the weekend and brought home the 1st place trophy and State Champion rings.
