A Goldsboro cigarette vendor who reportedly tried to shortchange a local business on its supply Friday has been charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Richard Glenn Faison, 42, came back to Roanoke Rapids Saturday and surrendered to Sergeant Terrence Tyler, Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty said.

His arrest stemmed from an investigation Friday where he delivered cigarettes to the West Fifth Street New Dixie Mart and when the store employee was distracted diverted them back for his own use after they were included in the inventory count.

The police department received the call around noon.

Faison received a $500 bond and August 21 court date.

Hasty also reported around 11:45 p.m. Friday, Master Officer Gerald Morris was checking the Chaloner Recreation Center when he noticed Calvin Stanley Jones, 63, of Roanoke Rapids, walking in the area. Morris located a pipe on Johnson and cited him for possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released until his court date.
