An elderly man died as he drove his pickup south in the right northbound lane of Interstate 95 this morning.

Trooper Scott Richardson of the state Highway Patrol declined to release the name of the man pending notification of next of kin.

The collision occurred shortly after 6 a.m. near the 176 exit.

Richardson said authorities received a call about a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lane of the interstate.

Less than five minutes later, Highway Patrol received a call there was a collision between the pickup and a tractor-trailer. EMS arrived and determined the driver of the pickup was deceased.

Richardson said it appears the driver of the pickup may have been trying to turn around when the collision occurred.

No charges will be filed.
