Jefferson in Family Dollar.

“Both times he had his hands in his pockets and hit the trigger,” Chief Chuck Hasty said of Jakeenen Quarmar Jefferson.
Jefferson, 20, of Roanoke Rapids, was arrested Monday night by Lieutenant C.L. Vaught, who charged him with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a stolen firearm.
In a statement this morning Hasty said “the firearm was accidentally discharged when Mr. Jefferson put his hand in his coat pocket,” once Saturday when he walked into Family Dollar on East Tenth Street and then on Sunday when the same thing happened and a family member was shot in the leg.
Vaught said this morning of the Glock Jefferson was carrying, “technically they don’t have a safety. Basically, you have to keep the finger off the trigger.”
Jefferson received a $5,000 bond and December 21 court date.
