A United States magistrate judge found probable cause today to move forward with the heroin trafficking case against Herbert Cherry and Tony Reams.

According to minute entries in the case in the federal record, Cherry and Reams appeared in court in Greenville with their counsel as well as counsel for the government present.
Magistrate Judge Kimberly A. Swank found probable cause and determined the men were not suitable for release and ordered them to remain in federal custody pending trial.
Documents further explaining the reason for the detention were not available.
Cherry, of Tarboro, and Reams, of Scotland Neck, were arrested last week on federal charges of conspiracy to distribute 100 grams of heroin or more and possession with intent to distribute 100 grams of heroin or more.
The men were initially arrested March 13 following a lengthy investigation and were stopped on Interstate 95 in Roanoke Rapids with 694 bricks of heroin.
