Roanoke Rapids can still hold their head high

2A Roanoke Rapids girls faced a fast paced 4A Heritage High team from Wake Forrest Tuesday night in the Warren County Christmas Classic Championship.

Roanoke Rapids lost 58-32/

Brooke McClenny and Alizea Neville were both named to the All-Tournament team.

Leading scorers for Roanoke Rapids were:  Alizea Neville with 9 points, Brooke McClenny with 7 points, Alloni Wallace with 6 points, Haley Farrow with 4 points, Taylor Medlin, Brionna Gibson and Brianna Allen had 2 points each.

Head coach Jim Whitmire comments after the game:  "All of our Roanoke Rapids basketball teams represented our school very well in the tournament. The girls did an outstanding job in the win against Southern Vance to get us in the championship game. Even though we fell to a good Heritage team, the girls got a little tatste of what it's like to win. As I have said before, we are young and with that comesgrowing pains. In order for us to be sucessful we must be consistent. I am still very proud of our team and we are starting to see new wrinkles in our line up. We finished as runner-ups and put some much deserved hardware in the trophy case. This represents the hard work and dedication of the girls. As I have told them, do what we do well and the wins will take care of themselves. It's not about winning every game, it's about building a program that wins on and off the court.
