Investigator Bobby Martin said news accounts about him being wanted in the robbery prompted his surrender.
The 27-year-old Roanoke Rapids man was jailed on $100,000 bond and faces charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and second-degree kidnapping in the New Dixie Mart BP robbery.
He also faces charges of larceny of a firearm, larceny and obtaining property by false pretense on warrants taken out by Investigator Jeff Davis.
Davis said last week his case involves Harris reportedly pawning an item stolen from family members.
The armed robbery occurred around 10 p.m. at the East Tenth Street New Dixie Mart when a man entered the store as the employee was putting up stock.
Martin said last week the man forced the employee from one location of the store to the other, armed with a knife, and demanded money.
While not speaking specifically about Davis, Martin said this afternoon, “Motivation behind a lot of crimes is drug-related. A lot of times that has a lot to do with crimes. We also have individuals who are facilitating, selling to make their hustle. Drugs are the root of a lot of our criminal enterprises in Halifax County.”
Harris is scheduled to appear in court on March 15.
