Walter Tyler, 48, faces charges of DWI, reckless driving, open container and a stop sign violation, according to an initial report by Trooper R.P. Dennis.
Further charges related to the crash are pending a meeting with the district attorney's office.
Earlier today the patrol released the name of the 22-year-old woman who died in the crash.
Chavis Avent of Valentines, Virginia, was driving east on Highway 903 when she was struck by the Infiniti driven by Tyler, which was coming south on Aurelian Springs Road.
Tyler ran the stop sign and crashed into Avent's vehicle. She was killed on impact.
Tyler remains hospitalized and an updated condition was not immediately available.
