A Tarboro man was arrested Wednesday on heroin counts following a traffic stop in the Scotland Neck area.

Major Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Deputy Steven Casey stopped a man later identified as Jason Watson, 38, around 11 a.m. for a seat belt violation on Highway 258.

Casey learned Watson had an order for his arrest for larceny out of Nash County. Watson was arrested on the order and a subsequent personal and vehicle search led to the seizure of 10 bindles of heroin; a hypodermic needle and spoon.

Casey charged Watson with felony possession of heroin; maintaining a vehicle to store narcotics; possession of drug paraphernalia and larceny.

He was jailed on $5,000 secured bond with an October 7 court date pending.
