Halifax County Board of Commissioner Chairman Vernon Bryant was recognized by the state Association of County Commissioners for meeting the requirements for practitioner level in the Local Elected Leader Academy.

The level, according to a Halifax County government statement, means the person has completed a minimum of 48 credits divided between 18 in orientation; 18 focused in-depth credits and 12 elected credits.

The academy is a partnership with the University of North Carolina School of Government, the state Association of County Commissioners and the North Carolina League of Municipalities.

It offers elected officials the knowledge and skills needed to govern their communities.

Beyond the practitioner level is the master and mentor level.

“I want to thank the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners for this recognition,” Bryant said in the statement. “I will continue to give my best in serving the citizens of our great county and state.”

Said NCACC Executive Director Kevin Leonard: “LELA recognizes county commissioners who have dedicated themselves to becoming effective local leaders for their communities. The roles and responsibilities of county commissioners are constantly changing and the LELA program helps them keep up with the latest information.”
