The search for a new school superintendent to lead the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District will continue for a few more months.

The RRGSD Board Trustees approved an updated timeline Tuesday night which will allow them to continue to advertise nationally and accept applications through January 11.

Under the new timeline, the board anticipates making an announcement in April which would allow the new superintendent to start July.

Interim Superintendent John Parker will remain in his role until a permanent replacement is named.

In other matters:

Board member Mike Williams encouraged the board to further explore the possibility of expanding Pre-K services to every child in the district.

There are 26 students currently on a waiting list at Clara Hearne Pre-K Center.

Parker assured the board that plans have been discussed and a formal presentation will be made later this year.
