RRPD blotter: October 23-25, 2015

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Friday October 23, 2015

At approximately 11:30 a.m., Officer Patrick Smith responded to a call after the police department received information on a person wanted out of Virginia.

Smith located Eric Richard Hinson, 31, of Conway, at a residence on Jewel Street.

Hinson had outstanding warrants from Franklin for fraudulent checks and obtaining property by fraud.

Hinson received a $10,000 bond and is awaiting extradition back to Virginia.

Hasty and Deputy Chief Andy Jackson assisted.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., Smith located Joshua Brandon Dickens, 24, of Roanoke Rapids, on Oakwood Avenue near the dam after the police department received information from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Probation and Parole Department.

Dickens absconded from probation and parole and also had several outstanding orders for his arrest.

Dickens received an $11,000 bond and a December 9 court date.

Saturday October 24, 2015

At approximately 11:30 a.m., Officer Ryan Cross responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Kaywon O’Neal Branch, 25, of Weldon, took items from the store without paying.

Cross cited Branch for larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Branch was released until his court date on December 18.

At approximately 4 p.m., Cross responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported several people took items from the store without paying and were walking near Dollar Tree.

Cross got out with the people loss prevention was following and one ran.

Darius Lamar Alston, 18, of Littleton, was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Cross arrested and charged Alston for larceny, possession of stolen goods and resist, delay and obstruct.

Alston received a $1,000 bond and a December 18 court date.

Officer Joey Spragins assisted.

The investigation is still ongoing to identify the other person who ran away.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., Spragins responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Debra Denesia Stith, 53, of Halifax, took items from the store without paying. Spragins cited Stith for larceny and possession of stolen goods.

She was released until her January 6 court date.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., Officer Jeffrey Mason conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

Mason found the driver, Sakwon Artavas Bowser, 19, of Roanoke Rapids, did not have a drivers license and during a search located a handgun.

Mason arrested and charged Bowser with no operator’s license and carrying a concealed weapon.

Bowser received a $500 bond and a December 14 court date.

Lieutenant Jeff Baggett assisted.

Sunday October 25, 2015

At approximately 9:30 a.m., Cross responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Shera Nicole Hart, 25, of Enfield, took items from the store without paying. Cross cited Hart for concealment of goods and she was released until her December 18 court date.

At approximately 4:15 p.m., Cross responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Rodney Lee Silver, 35, of Battleboro, removed the security device from items and then took them from the store without paying.

Cross arrested and charged Silver for two counts of larceny from a merchant by removing anti-theft device.

Silver received a $2,000 bond December 18 court date.

Spragins and Halifax County Deputy Sheriff Shantel Coates assisted.
