Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty said there is a strong possibility a man who robbed Rite Aid Tuesday night may be the person wanted in a double murder near Thomasville.

“We're investigating leads,” Hasty said this morning. “It's a strong possibility these people may be involved.”

Lloyd Wayne Franklin, 34, faces two counts of first-degree murder, while Jennifer Michelle Lanning, 38, faces accessory after the fact charges in connection with the deaths of Davie Lee McSwain, 82, and Joan McSwain, 78. Both were found dead inside their home Thursday, multiple media outlets covering the Thomasville and Davidson County areas reported.

The Fayetteville Observer reported surveillance video from the Thursday robbery of an Aberdeen pharmacy helped the Davidson County Sheriff's Office identify a man suspected in the double murder near Thomasville the same day.

Aberdeen police investigators determined the van was reported stolen from the double murder and contacted Davidson County authorities.

The Greensboro News & Record reported investigators believe Franklin attempted to rob the McSwain residence.

Deputies think Franklin left the McSwain home in the couple’s dark-blue 2006 Chrysler Town & Country van with the license plate XRX-2142.

Investigators also believe Franklin has McSwain’s nickel-plated .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, which was missing from the residence.

The Roanoke Rapids robbery occurred shortly before 7 p.m. at Rite Aid on Tenth Street.

The person of interest, a white male, went to the pharmacy brandishing a handgun and demanded narcotics. The pharmacist complied and the man left with an undisclosed amount of medication in a dark colored van headed east on Highway 158.
