RRPD blotter: February 13-14, 2016

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Saturday February 13, 2016

At approximately 1:30 a.m, Sergeant Mike Moseley was on routine patrol when he noticed a traffic violation and conducted a stop in the 800 Block of Monroe Street.

During interaction with the driver, Meshawn Deantre Avent 21, of Gaston, Moseley determined Avent was impaired and did not have a drivers license.

Moseley arrested and charged Avent, who was released to a responsible person pending a March 14 court date, with driving while impaired and no operators license.

Lieutenant Jeff Baggett assisted.

At approximately noon, Officer Patrick Smith responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Jermaine Deione Hockaday, 30, and Mary Beth Nelson, 23, both of Roanoke Rapids, took items.

Smith arrested and charged Hockaday with larceny, possession of stolen goods and served an outstanding warrant for failing to report new address by registered sex offender.

He arrested and charged Nelson with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Hockaday received a $16,000 bond while Nelson received a $1,000 bond.

Both have February 26 court dates.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., Sergeant Richie White responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Buster Cleveland Thompson Jr., 36, of Roanoke Rapids, who had been banned from the store by court order, attempted to take items.

White arrested and charged Thompson, who received a $5,000 bond and February 19 court date, with trespassing and attempted larceny.

Sunday February 14, 2016

At approximately 1 p.m., Officer Ryan Cross responded to a trespasser call at Carriage Hill Apartments.

Cross found Bryant Ansell Newell Jr., 17, at the apartments and upon further investigation learned there was a domestic violence protection order outstanding.

Cross arrested and charged Bryant with domestic violation of a protective order. He was jailed without opportunity for bond pending a March 11 court date.

White assisted.

At approximately 5 p.m., Smith responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Leslie Michelle Gregory, 48, of Roanoke Rapids, took items.

Smith arrested and charged Gregory, who received a $300 bond and March 11 court date, with shoplifting.

At approximately 10 p.m., Baggett was on routine patrol when he noticed a traffic violation in the 1300 block of Bolling Road.

During the stop Baggett could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and found Cigarillos and baggies during a search.

Baggett cited Matthew Scott Gay, 24, of Roanoke Rapids, with possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released until his March 18 court date.

Master Officer Adam Salmon assisted.
