A Littleton man came forward today and has been charged in a fatal hit and run collision which occurred Saturday morning.

Thomas Torain, 26, of Crest Lane, has been charged with felony hit and run, no operators license and displaying a revoked license plate, Trooper C. Gall of the state Highway Patrol said this evening.

“He contacted a deputy he knew and the deputy put him in touch with the Highway Patrol,” Gall said.

Troopers D.P. Efird and L. Bynum went to Torain’s house where he gave them a voluntary statement. He was then transported to Halifax for booking.

Torain reportedly ran over Jameille Harvey, 27, around 4 a.m. Saturday after he left his house on Crest Lane, which is off Faulcon Road. “He took a left to travel south on Faulcon Road. When he got to the area of the victim’s house he says he remembers running over a bump in the road.”

Gall said Torain said he didn’t remember seeing anything in the road. When he got to his destination he checked his vehicle for damage and didn’t notice any. “He told us he learned of the victim’s death later on that morning and then he said today it was just weighing on his conscious and he wanted to come clean.”

Gall said Torain made the initial call to the deputy around 3 p.m. today.

Two other men were charged this week by the Highway Patrol in the case and face charges reflective of an altercation with Harvey which occurred before Harvey was reportedly struck by Torain’s vehicle.

Terrance Faulcon, 37, of Littleton, was charged with assault and battery and involuntary manslaughter.

Irwin T. Edmonds, 28, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury and involuntary manslaughter. Edmonds, Faulcon and Torain all have August 17 court dates.

Gall said the investigation of the matter “was a team effort between all the state troopers, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and the SBI. We figured it would come together eventually, but it surprised us it happened so fast.”
