Trucker charged in morning crash

A Wilson truck driver was charged in a morning crash which occurred on Highway 186 in the Seaboard area.

According to a preliminary investigation by the state Highway Patrol, Trooper S.R. Corn charged Jorge Alvarez with fail to reduce speed.
Further details were not immediately available.
In a statement, Gaston Fire and Rescue Chief Ed Porter Jr. said units were dispatched shortly before 6:45 to a two-vehicle crash with entrapment.
A tractor-trailer was found alongside a passenger car in which its driver was trapped.
The vehicle was stabilized and the driver’s side doors were removed using hydraulic rescue cutters and spreaders. The roof and steering wheel were also removed using hydraulic rescue cutters.
The driver of the passenger car was treated on scene by Northampton County paramedics. Vidant Eastcare landed near the scene and transported the patient in stable condition to the Greenville medical center.
Alvarez was found unharmed.
Fire and rescue crews were on scene for approximately 30 minutes. The Seaboard Volunteer Fire Department and Conway-Severn Rescue Squad were also on the scene.
