The beginning of each football season brings fans different emotions with hope and excitement.

You can sit in the stands and listen to each person tell stories from last week’s game and seasons gone by and during those conversations someone will pull a schedule out and point at what they perceive as the big game.
The Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets have started the 2016 football campaign sporting a 7-0 record. The Jacket fans have said from the start that if you look at game number eight on the schedule, you will see the big game.
It turns out that Jacket fans are right because game eight, which is this Friday at 7:30 p.m., has the Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets (7-0) hosting the Bunn Wildcats (6-1) in what could be a very big game. The Jackets and the Wildcats are both 1-0 in conference play and are coming off wins last Friday night with the Jackets defeating Warren County 42-16 and Bunn defeating Southern Vance 51-14.
The inside numbers show that Bunn has put up 314 points in seven games where the Jackets have put up 270. Running back D.J. Jones of Bunn is averaging a 108.1 yards rushing per game and Da’raj Watson with the Jackets is averaging 112.4 per game. The Jackets have displayed a passing attack with quarterback Cameron Rogerson averaging 71.7 yards passing per game which is 27.4 yards better than the current national average. The Bunn Wildcat quarterback Quenten Wright is averaging 54.7 yards per game passing.
The defensive side of the ballgame shows the Yellow Jackets have allowed 94 points in seven games where Bunn has allowed 121 points. The Jackets defense is fast and has been led by Marcus Allen who is currently averaging 7.7 tackles a game.
The game Friday Night at Hoyle field could be one to remember for many reasons.
The Jackets will be honoring our military veterans at the game.
You may want to get there early for the pregame show that should surprise everyone.
The kickoff time is set for 7:30 p.m. with a game that should have everybody feeling those emotions of hope and excitement because it is indeed a big game with the winner stepping out in front of the conference standings.
