Linda Brewer officially became a Halifax County commissioner this evening as she was sworn in by Judge Turner Stephenson.

Brewer, a former member of the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District Board of Education, was the top choice of the Halifax County Democratic Executive Committee to fill the unexpired term of the late Rachel Hux.
“I’m honored to be here,” Brewer said after taking the oath of office. “I know a lot about this county. I’m excited to be at this level to make Halifax County a better place to live.”
Board Chair Vernon Bryant said Brewer becomes the third woman to hold a seat on the county commissioners. “That’s historic as well.”
“No one can ever take the place of Rachel Hux,” Bryant said following the meeting. “Linda brings a wealth of knowledge. She’s going to great asset to our board and I look forward to working with her.”
Brewer also collected the votes cast for Hux in the November 8 election.
