EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

The City of Roanoke Rapids is now accepting applications for the following position:

Finance/Tax Technician in the Tax/Revenue Department. An employee in this position works closely with the Finance/Tax Department collecting payments for taxes and other city services. This is a full time position. Processes and inputs mail payments. Applicant must be eligible for bond as required by law. Must possess ability to operate financial software and other office equipment. Payroll data entry, and will serve as payroll backup assistant. Responsible for other financial duties as assigned.
Required qualities: Professional telephone techniques for main switchboard, excellent customer service skills, good communication skills, proficient computer and clerical skills. Prefer applicant with knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word applications. Accounting and/or financial experience preferred, but not required. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees and the general public. Criminal background check and drug screen are required. Deadline for application submission for this position is Friday – December 16, 2016 by 12 NOON.

Part-Time Building Supervisor in the Recreation Department. An employee in this position supervises scheduled activities and is the City’s point of contact during these activities. Hours are mainly evenings and weekends according to activities that are scheduled.

Part-Time Public Works Worker in the Public Works Department: An employee in this position performs skilled technical and trades work in the maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment. Job duties include but are not limited to grass cutting, leaf collection, street sign maintenance, and other duties necessary in the Public Works Department. Must have a valid NC Driver’s License.

NOTICE OF MEETING

Notice is hereby given that the Roanoke Rapids Planning Board will hold a public meeting Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lloyd Andrews City Meeting Hall at 700 Jackson Street to hear the following items and provide a recommendation to City Council:

1. Consideration of changes (text amendments) to the Roanoke Rapids Land Use Ordinance regarding the use of property for the following:
a. Article X: Permissible Uses, Section 151-149 Table of Permitted Uses to consider the Use Designation in the Zoning Districts as a Permitted or Conditional Use for Electronic Gaming Operations (land use code 6.300); Restaurants/Bars/Nightclubs (land use category 8.000); and mini-storage (land use code 10.210);
b. Article XI: Supplementary Use Regulations to consider changes to the location restrictions (separation distances) for electronic gaming operation, restaurants, bars and nightclubs in commercial districts.

Related information for the meeting is available for public inspection in the Planning and Development office at the J. Reuben Daniel City Hall, 1040 Roanoke Avenue. Any persons, firms, organizations or corporations interested in this matter are urged to attend the meeting.
