Fred C. Podruchny

Fred C. Podruchny, Sr., 92, died Thursday, December 23, 2010 in Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Podruchny was born September 19, 1918 in Sussex County, VA to the late Charlie Podruchny and Mary DeDanko Podruchny.  He retired from Champion International after 39 years of service and a member of Woodman of the World.   He also was a faithful member of Quankie Baptist Church.  He loved his family and was happy singing praises to his Lord and Savior until the end.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Katie Myren “Re-Re” Garner Podruchny; a son, Grady Podruchny; six sisters, Eunice Shanko, Rosebud Phillips, Ethel Vejnar, Nellie Landen, Daisy Allen, and Mamie Joyner and two brothers, Willie Podruchny and Daniel Podruchny.

Surviving are one son, Fred Podruchny, Jr. and wife Jean of Roanoke Rapids; two daughters, Betty P. Flowe and husband Tom of Decatur AL, and Mary Ann P. Sorie and husband Billy of Roanoke Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Faye L. Podruchny of Roanoke Rapids; a brother, James Podruchny and his wife, Gladys; grandchildren, Lynn P. Shaw and husband Scott, Larry Podruchny and wife Lore, Jan F. Murphy and husband Billy, Angela Sorie and fiancé, Jerry, Tammy P. Fell and husband Mark, Fred C.”Chuck” Podruchny,III, and Leigh P. Morris and husband Robbie.  Also surviving are great grandchildren, twins, Mac and Sam Murphy, Tony Taylor, Ashley Collins, Adam Shaw, Britne Podruchny, Cameron Podruchny, Erin Takano, and Katie and Chloe Morris.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service, who is handling arrangements, Sunday, December 26th from 7-9 PM.  Funeral services will conducted by Rev. Frank Stansbury at Quankie Baptist Church Monday, December 27th at 2:00 PM.  Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery.

The family wishes to give special thanks to his caregivers for their love and care, including Alice Putney.
