Hazel Deberry Hamill

Hazel Deberry Hamill, 91, died peacefully at her home Thursday, April 27, 2017, surrounded by family and friends.

Mrs. Hamill was born in Northampton County, April 25, 1926, to the late Millard and Daisy Birdsong Deberry.

She loved her family and loved cooking Sunday soup for them all to enjoy.

She also was a devoted Christian and loved having Sunday church at her home with her two boys as they watched the different church programs on television.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hamill was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Celie Hamill, Sr.; son, Steve Walker; 3 brothers, Clint, Garland and Saint Deberry and 2 grandsons, Cody Roundtree and Ronnie Hamill.

Surviving are her sons, Michael Walker and Ralph “Bucky” Hamill, Jr. both of the home; daughters, Rose Roundtree, also of the home, Nancy H. Hand and husband, David L., of Weldon, Vickie Wells and husband, Rusty, of Roanoke Rapids, and Kathy Rightmyer of Enfield; brother, Paul Deberry of Roanoke Rapids; sister, Verdie Riggan of Roanoke Rapids; 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Also surviving is her special family friend for over 30 years, whom she loved like a daughter, Lisa Daniels Brown.

Rev. Jeremy Kobernat will conduct funeral services Sunday, April 30, 2017, at 3:00 pm in the chapel at Hockaday. The family will receive friends prior to the service, also at the funeral home, from 1:00-2:30 pm and all other times at either Nancy’s home, 418 Holmes St, or at Rose’s home, 904 Thomas St., both are located in Weldon. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
