Mrs. Hawkins was a longtime member of Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, led the Methodist Youth Fellowship, sang in the choir, and was a member and supporter of the United Methodist Women. She was a loving, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and for years she grew her own flowers and prepared them for Sunday church service.
She was predeceased by her parents: Matthew Wesley Hux and Belvie Crawley Hux; her husband: Willis Eugene Hawkins; her grandson: Mark Anthony Morgan; her brothers and sisters: Roger Hux, Jack Hux, Zonnie Elizabeth Hux Sargent, Rufus Hux, Grady Hux, Raymond Hux, and Olin Hux.
She is survived by her daughters: Shirley Morgan and husband B. B. and Faye Pepper and husband, David; her sister: Elsie Hux Pittard; her half brother: Lee Hux, and half-sister: Maybelle Daniels, all of Roanoke Rapids; her grandchildren: Gary Morgan and wife, Yvonne, April Reese, Jeffrey Taylor and wife, Angie; step-grandchildren: David Pepper, Jr. and wife, Elizabeth and Reginald Brock Pepper and wife, Leah;Her great-grandchildren: Megan Perry, Amber Evans, Mitch Morgan and Meleah Morgan; step-great-grandchildren: Selena, Peyton, Avery, Lily Kate Pepper; two very special nieces: Joyce Cobb and Jackie Norman, and many much-loved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church on Monday, January 31, 2011, at 3:00 P. M. conducted by Rev. Sid Collins and Rev. Gene Cobb. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 30, from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service which is handling the arrangements, and other times at 3140 Everett School Road.
