The video, A Great Weekend in Halifax County North Carolina, shows footage from the lake to Sylvan Heights and from Roanoke Rapids, Weldon and Historic Halifax.

It is part of a retooling of the CVB’s website and an effort to draw more visitors to the county.

In her 2016-17 report, Medlin noted the county’s tourism industry achieved record economic impact in 2016 with visitor spending reaching $91.78 million.

The increase represents a 2.3 percent growth spurt in spending over the previous year, she said. “Spending by travelers directly and indirectly supported over 1,000 jobs and generated more than $7.96 million in state and local tax revenues. Our partnerships with attractions, lodging and dining properties remain key to the success of the tourism industry in Halifax County.”

The report notes occupancy tax collections are an important indicator of success in the industry. “In 2016, our collections grew by 4.25 percent. Lodging revenues reached a record high of $17,330,900.”

Eighty-five percent of the occupancy tax was generated in Roanoke Rapids. In Weldon the figure was 10 percent and Lake Gaston 4 percent. Scotland Neck was 1 percent.

State tax generated by visitors was $5.73 million while local tax was $2.23 million. Property tax value of accommodations was $44,246,900, which generated $345,125 in Halifax County property taxes.

Visitor spending, Medlin said, saved each household in the county $152.84.
