Mr. Rhome was retired from Champion Paper Company and a member of South Rosemary United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II and received two purple hearts. He was a former member of Davie Lions Club and loved to fish, hunt, and golf. He was devoted to his family and friends.
He was born June 3, 1925, to the late William and Laura Main Rhome and was also preceded in death by his sisters: Margaret Walton and Elsie Brake; his brothers: Lloyd, Leroy, Edward, Jesse, John and Frank Rhome; and two granddaughters, Michelle and Melissa Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years: Mamie G. Rhome; his son: James Rhome and wife, Melinda, of Roanoke Rapids; his daughters: Dean Williams and husband, Darrell, of Roanoke Rapids, and Becky Boso and husband, Sonny, of Durham; his grandchildren: Tammy Wright, Kathy Calhoun, Angie Melvin, Lori Long, Jamie Rhome, and Darrell Williams, Jr.; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at South Rosemary United Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. conducted by Rev. Sue Owens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 noon until 1:30 P.M. at the church, and other times at the home,2114 Roanoke Avenue.
