Peggy Jean Liles Johnson

Peggy Jean Liles Johnson, 80, of Littleton passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Phoenix Assisted Living in Cary.

Peggy was born February 23, 1937 in Halifax County to the late Joseph b. Liles and Louise Aycock Liles. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Stanley M. Johnson, Sr.

Peggy grew up in Aurelian Springs where she continued to live most of her life. She learned to play the guitar at a very young age and later learned to play steel guitar. Peggy and Stanley both loved country music and played in several area bands throughout their married life. They made yearly trips to Nashville TN. Peggy also worked as a nurse at the Roanoke Rapids Hospital which later became Halifax Regional Medical Center, however she found her true calling as a nurse caring for residents at various nursing homes in the area before retiring from Liberty Commons in 2004.

Peggy is survived by her son, Stanley Mason Johnson, Jr.; her daughter, Peggy Jo (Johnson) Stowe; her grandchildren, Shelley Stowe Platz, Anne Lynne Johnson Whitby, Joseph Liles Johnson, Christopher Taylor Johnson and Alicia Hurst; her great-grandchildren, Hailey Marie Whitby, Breanna Jade Whitby, Jessica Rayne Whitby and Luke Austin Platz; her sister, Evelyn Louise Liles Nowell.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Stan Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave, FL 17, Chicago, IL 60601
