Roanoke Rapids High School Senior Amanda Daniel, is the recipient of this year’s Ethel Crawley Scholarship giving her a free undergraduate education to the college of her choice. 

Daniel plans to pursue a career as a physical therapist and will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the fall.

Principal Tom Davis, school counselor Jessica Elias, and instructional coach Eva Ott presented Daniel with the scholarship letter Wednesday at Roanoke Rapids High School.

The Ethel W. Crawley Memorial Education Fund Scholarship directs a scholarship selection committee to award a full four-year scholarship that covers tuition, room, board, school fees, books, and other supplies.

“I am so grateful to have been given this opportunity and I want to thank my family and all of my teachers and other school staff that have supported me through the years,” Daniel said.  

Ethel Crawley, who died April 11, 1998, did not want finances to be a barrier for a student getting a college education when she established the scholarship.  

She was a lifelong resident of Littleton, teaching music for 28 years at Littleton High School.  

“Amanda is a well-rounded student and her dedication to academic excellence truly embodies the spirit of the Ethel Crawley Scholarship. We are immensely proud of her achievements and confident that she will continue to do great things,” said Davis.
