Betty Jane Lee

Betty Jane Lee was born in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. on August 23, 1943.

Some people also called her Jeannie (because she favored “ I Dream of Jeannie”); some may also know her as BJ, short for Betty Jane, and sometimes “Sunshine”, and Mema. She also had a beautiful smile and was friendly to all she met.  She was loved by so many, and was a fun loving, beautiful wife, mom, and mema.

Betty was educated in the Halifax County School System.  She was a homemaker. She often told friends the best years of her life were raising her children.

Betty had a passion for her flower gardens, butterflies, hummingbirds and ocean sunsets.  Betty worked at Enfield Apparel as a seamstress, and also waitressed for 20 years at Lakewood Truck Stop, Fairfax Restaurant, and Community Drive –In. Betty love going to church and had recently joined Victory Baptist Church where she was baptized.  She was a very classy lady. She never met a stranger and was always there for everyone and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

We will always remember your kind, loving, and wonderful heart.  We were so blessed to have had such a beautiful mom, wife and friend.  We thank God for the times we had together.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved mom, Sallie Ann Shearin and her son, Bobby Ray Lee.

Betty was a loving and devoted wife and left behind those to cherish her memory including her husband of 52 years Phillip Lee, Sr., three children, Brenda F. Lee, Phillip Lee, Jr. and wife Cheryl, Donna Lee Jones and special friend Charles and adopted daughter, Terri S. Hux all of Roanoke Rapids: her grandchildren, Heather Lee, Swain Browder, Jr., Christi Browder and friend Allison Medlin, Paula Browder, Shane Lee, Tiffany Lee, Kayla Jones, Haleigh Hobbs and Lenzie Hardin: six great grandchildren, Alexis, Joshua, Chandler, Jacoda, Cameron and Payton: one sister, Priscilla Elaine Shearin of Roanoke, VA: two sisters-in-law, Ruby Jenkins and Linda Tripp of Roanoke Rapids and a host of other family and friends.
