Frances 'Candy' Turrentine Maxon

Frances “Candy” Turrentine Maxon 70, of  Roanoke Rapids, died Monday, August  1, 2011 at Nash General Hospital.

Candy spent a large part of her adult life working with the disabled.  She loved going to church, always had a smile and a cheerful tone to her voice.  Despite her many physical challenges in the past few years, she  made those around her  feel  blessed  when they  were in her presence  and  in her usual  upbeat way would always say, “I’m doing fine!”

She was born January 14, 1941 to the late Duncan Cameron Turrentine and Frances Wever Turrentine.  She was  preceded in death by her husband:  Joseph Maxon;  her brother: David Miles Turrentine, her aunt and  uncle:  Lena-Miles Wever Todd and Leonard Todd, Sr.

She is survived her daughter, Catherine Perdue Frates and husband, Timothy, of Montrose, Colorado; her son, David Cameron Perdue of Roanoke Rapids and his fiance, Laura Floyd Brogden; her  grandchildren:  Kristian Elizabeth Perdue and Abigayle Lilian Perdue, of Roanoke Rapids, and Amber Rebecca Frates,  and  Meredith Nicole Frates of Montrose, Colorado;    her first cousins: Leonard Todd, Jr and wife, Laurel  Blossom, of Edgefield, South Carolina;  Bill Turrentine and Sam Turrentine of Greenville, South Carolina.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August  5, 2011, at 11 A.M. in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service which is handling the arrangements with Mitchel Goad, Minister, officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.  The family  requests that you feel free to wear bright, joyful colors to celebrate her life which was always upbeat.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 4, 2011, at the funeral home from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. and at other  times at the home of her son at 907 W. 5th Street, Roanoke Rapids.

Memorial gifts may be made to East Tenth Street Church of Christ, 1207 E. 10th Street, Roanoke Rapids, N. C. 27870.
