RV All-Stars notch first win

The Roanoke Valley U12 ENC state champion all-star team opened a four-game pool play in Holly Springs in the 2013 Cal Ripken Southeastern Regional tournament today with a win.

RV played the Augusta, Virginia team and took the game past the regulation six innings.

In the bottom of the eighth inning with Virginia at bat and runners on first and second base and one out, right fielder Ethan Vincent caught a fly ball for out two and then threw out the runner at first base to end the game. RV won game one 5-4.

Cameron Medlin pitched three innings with three strikeouts, giving up four hits. Carson Neal came in for relief, pitching five innings and giving up four hits as well.

At the plate Cameron Wilson was the big hitter with two hits, while Carson Neal, Cameron Salmon, Ethan Vincent and Jacob Barnes each had one hit.

Roanoke Valley faces the Tennessee team after the 6:30 p.m. opening ceremonies.
