“I’m excited for the opportunity,” he said following a swearing-in ceremony in which Cassandra Dolberry and Patricia Whitaker were also administered oaths for town and finance officer respectively. “I’m definitely here to help. We’re planning for the Peanut Festival and our back to school event.”

Freeman is a graduate of Elizabeth City State University who holds an undergraduate degree in criminal justice. He recently earned his law degree and a masters in public administration from North Carolina Central University.

“I want to do more to increase foot traffic and car traffic in town,” Freeman said. “I want to attract more business, industry and commercial here. We’re here to play ball and ready to play ball.”

Mayor Wayne Anderson said this is the first time the town has been fully staffed since 2011-12.

Enfield has been aggressive in revitalization efforts, Anderson said. “Small towns are reinventing themselves throughout the country. We’re excited to see how things will move on.”

District Court Judge Teresa Freeman administered the oath to her husband as well as Dolberry and Whitaker.

“I could not miss this,” she said. “I’m happy, obviously. This is my hometown. I was born, reared and educated here. This is my first love.”
