The charge against a woman who allegedly struck a Roanoke Rapids man riding a scooter in June has been upgraded to misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

Johnelle Moore, of Weldon, was originally charged with a safe movement on the evening she turned into the path of Brad Denning at the intersection of Tenth Street and Park Avenue.

Denning died Tuesday night from injuries sustained in the crash.

Roanoke Rapids police said the decision to upgrade the charge against Moore was made Thursday after consulting with the Halifax County District Attorney's Office.

The charge reflects that Moore unintentionally caused Denning's death while operating a motor vehicle.

She was given a $5,000 secured bond and has an October 4 court date.
