Taylor Beaver, a 15-year-old wakesurfer from Roanoke Rapids, earned a national title at the USA National Wakesurf Championship at Callaway Gardens, Georgia.

Beaver placed third in the weekend competition, according to Jay Baker of WakeSurf NC where Beaver is an instructor.

“This was a big contest,” Baker said. “She knocked it out of the park.

Beaver was fourth going into the final day of competition when two tricks she never tried before catapulted her past the other third place contender.

The third place finish qualifies her to attend to World Wakesurfing Championship in Las Vegas. That event will be held in September and Baker fully expects her to take the podium. “Every contest she's been to she's gone to the podium.”

The event will also help her move up to a semi-professional division called the Outlaw Division, Baker said.

“I'm just as happy as I can be for her,” Baker said. “With her practicing and training she has a great work ethic. She knows hard work pays off.”
