Roanoke Rapids had few answers this evening for a Fike team that packed a multi-faceted offensive punch.

The Yellow Jackets lost their home opener, 49-0, four fumbles helping to set up as many Golden Demon touchdowns.

Jackets coach Will Clark said there was nothing his team could take from this game and use in Weldon next week against a Chargers team that shattered Columbia, 48-0. “That says a lot,” he said of the Weldon score. “Weldon likes to score touchdowns. We will have to line up and tackle.”

When practice comes next week, Clark said, “Come Monday, I'm going to coach our team harder. I'm going to line up our team and find eleven physical players.”

The Golden Demons ran a high-powered offense from which it could dive, pitch and pass, Clark said.

De'Juan Walker is wrapped up by Golden Demons.

That became evident after a Roanoke Rapids fumble by Shada Henry in the first quarter when, on the second play, Fike's Anthony Evans scored on a 50-yard touchdown ramble at 9:22.

A 60-yard Derrick Brooks kickoff return set the Jackets up well following Fike's first touchdown but a second fumble gave the Golden Demons the ball back.

Fike went on a sustained drive and with 7:42 left in the first, Evans took the ball on a 6-yard run for the second Golden Demons touchdown.

Yet another first quarter fumble, this one when D.J. Jones was stripped of the ball, set up a three-play drive that ended with a 1-yard A.J. Hines run that made the score 21-0 with 1:19 left.

Fike's fourth touchdown of the evening came early in the second quarter when Hines scooted past the Jackets on a 3-yard run. Lavaris Speight, midway through the second quarter, hauled in a 3-yard pass that put the Golden Demons up 35-0 with 6:14 left in the first half.

The last Fike touchdown of the first half came following another Jackets fumble and a short drive that ended when Speight took a pitch and ran 39 yards for a touchdown. Speight also scored Fike's final touchdown of the evening, running the ball 9 yards with 6:34 left in the third quarter.

Clark said part of the problem is youth. “We've got three or four seniors mixed in, we've got a lot of young kids mixed in with the seniors. We need the seniors to step up and be leaders for them.”
