For the fourth annual celebration of Dylan Moore Days, its organizers have turned their attention to two people — Blake Barnes and Will Hawkins.

The weekend event — September 21 and 22 — will be at the Halifax County 4-H and Livestock Complex on Highway 903 outside Halifax.

Dylan Moore Days is set aside to honor the memory of Moore, who died in 2009 at the age of 8 from a rare genetic disorder.

This year the organizers chose to honor Barnes, a local teenager, was diagnosed with cancer in the fall of 2012 and has been in and out of the hospital and traveling back and forth to the Chapel Hill Cancer Center for treatment.

The organizers also chose to honor Hawkins, who sustained a traumatic brain injury in March of this year. He spent 137 days at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. He was discharged on July 24, but is still going through rehabilitation and will be for at least several months.

On Saturday, a trail ride and poker run on horseback will take place. There will be a candlelight celebration and a live auction. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

Sunday’s festivities will kick off with Stoney Creek Cowboy Church at 9:30 a.m.

A horse show will follow, including such events as barrel racing and a costume contest.

There will be a Little Britches rodeo and costume contest for small children with stick horses. Barbecue plates will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a drive through will be available for take out plates.

A Chinese auction will take place.

There will be plenty of activities for those who do not ride horses such as free games for children, cornhole tournaments, birthday cake, a balloon release, authentic dutch oven cooking, Aunt Bee’s pickle contest, art ,cooking contests and more.
