HCVB President Lori Medlin told commissioners at their meeting this evening tourism spending in the county was $88 million, up 7 percent from the previous fiscal year.
Visitors spent $14 million at county hotels. They contributed $6.3 million in state and local tax dollars, saving county residents $118 on their taxes, said Medlin.
In the meantime, the HCVB is hoping to bring more sports opportunities to the county and is working with an advisory board in its efforts to have a recreation master plan. Commissioners this evening approved a contract with Site Solutions to develop that plan.
The county is paying for the study from a $24,750 grant from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust. Funding also comes from a community transformation grant, Halifax Horizons, the HCVB and the county to pay for the $50,065 plan.
Medlin said the HCVB was approved today for its smart phone applications.
In another matter this evening the board approved a $1,524,470 allocation to pay for storm drainage facilities for Klausner II in Enfield with the understanding the company will pay the money back.
