Bridgeman reward increased as search continues

As the Halifax County Sheriff's Office continues to seek any shred of information about the disappearance of a local woman, her family has boosted the reward fund to $1,500.

The family of Amy Bridgeman announced the reward increase Tuesday night on a Facebook page started to help find out any information on her disappearance from the area in the latter part of June.

The reward is for any credible information leading to her whereabouts.

There have been few leads, Captain Rich Somogyi of the sheriff's office said this morning. “I've sent teletypes out to cities and counties where she may be associated with. I've contacted law enforcement where her family has lived or we she has gone to in the past.”

Somogyi was referring to areas out of state, but declined to elaborate, saying only those solicitations have garnered no new leads.

Conversely, Somogyi said, “There's no information or leads that indicate she's been injured and we don't know that she hasn't just left on her own.”

Somogyi declined comment when asked whether the area she was last seen in, the area around Coastal Lumber near Green Street, where the sheriff's office has made several drug stings, had anything to do with her disappearance. “What's important is Amy Bridgeman is someone's wife, someone's mother. We just want to know that she is OK and ask anyone who has had contact with her to contact us. All we ask is that someone contact us so someone can say she is OK.”

Somogyi said work to locate Bridgeman has included entering her into several FBI databases, the National Crime Information Center as well as the teletype messages. “There's been no information on where to possibly search. We've done six different ground searches and several air searches in Halifax County and there's been no evidence, no additional information found.”

The sheriff's office, the captain said, would like to speak with anyone who had contact with her or who she has contacted.

The least bit of information could be helpful. “Somebody may think something is irrelevant. Anything could be a piece of the puzzle. We just want to make sure she's OK. Her family deserves to know where she is and that she's OK.”

The sheriff's office said in July the last time her family heard from her was June 28 around 6:55 a.m.

It is known that she went out with friends and her husband received a text message from her.

The text gave no hint as to her location and the sheriff's office declined to discuss details of the message.

Bridgeman, 42, has blue eyes and shoulder length hair that she often changes from black to brown. She has fair skin and was last seen wearing a white shirt with four black stripes and Capri pants.

She takes medication daily and her family is concerned whether she has a supply with her. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Somogyi at 252-583-1991 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
